Frequently Asked Questions
-
Your first visit will last for approximately an hour. It will consist of an intake assessment which is basically me asking you a bunch of questions about you, your family, your health history and why you are coming in for counseling. It is mainly a gathering of facts.
Your second and future sessions will be a bit different. They will last a little less than an hour, can be every week, every two weeks or even once a month if that is what works best for you. In the beginning, once a week is usually recommended. This time is set aside for you, free from distraction; it is confidential and a time where we can discuss whatever it is that is on your mind.

Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or give us a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way. Getting in touch with your insurance company makes for a good start as well. Make sure to find out what they cover and what your co-pay is. This will help you be informed.

We can give you a itemized receipt called a super-bill, that you can turn into your insurance for reimbursement. It is best to contact your insurance company first to be informed on what they will cover and if they will accept a super-bill. Payment will need to be paid in full at each session.

My faith in Jesus, my life experiences and my genuine desire to help you in your journey! Each counselor brings their own special way to their counseling sessions. I believe it is very important who you choose as a counselor as they journey closely along with you in this season of your life. I encourage my clients to let me know if they feel we are not a good fit, this is important to me as I value you and want the best supports surrounding you in your life so you can heal.

Clients have stated that they have felt seen, heard, genuinely cared for and come away with a sense of relief and peace. Therapy is parts emotion, hard work and consistency but there is also lots of fun, laughing and good conversation. We are looking to relieve your mental health symptoms and even look to see what the source of those symptoms are. This takes time and it takes a solid, trusting relationship to get there. I would love to be that person for you!

At this time I only offer premarital counseling. We can however refer you to another professional who provides couples counseling.

Christian Counseling is counseling that incorporates scripture, faith, and prayer when in session. As you will see in your intake paperwork, this is a choice you can have control over. There are some that do not want prayer, some may not like scripture and some may not like it incorporated at all, these choices are completely up to you. I will honor your choice. I am here for you, to serve you as best as I can.

I am actually not a big fan of diagnosing clients. For insurance purposes, it is required by them that I report a diagnosis in order for them to pay for your sessions. If you prefer your insurance company not have a diagnosis in your records, then self-pay may be your better option. Even when using a super-bill, they require a diagnosis as well. This is something to consider before scheduling your first appointment.

AI is not utilized in our office. Although there is a trend for some therapists to use AI for progress notes, this is not used in our office. If AI is ever utilized, we will inform you about the change. Until then, you can be confident that AI is not being used to listen to our counseling sessions or to write your progress notes.

In-person is always best when it comes to counseling in my opinion. I reserve telehealth for when it is absolutely needed, such as inclement weather or the client is injured or sick and cannot make it in otherwise.
